Having been carbon negative for a few years now, I've…

After a lot of soul searching, we have decided to sell Hands on Harps. Morwenna and I have built this business from nothing over 11 years, and it’s given us lots of joy in that time. We’ve balanced running the business with other projects, not to mention becoming parents to two boistrous boys, and have thoroughly enjoyed bringing music into the world. Since the beginning of 2024, Creag has pursued a career in renewable energy, at first for 4 days a week, and then full time. Morwenna has taken the helm in that time, but her real passion is children’s storytelling, and with the help of an audio editor and a new children’s audio platform, it looks like The Book of Arralan is going to need more time from her going forwards.
There is plenty of scope for growth in the business. We have never done the 60 hour a week thing that most small business owners put in, and there are plenty of avenues that can still be explored. We haven’t yet promoted The Rainbow Harp to it’s full extent, and never managed to make it accessible outside of the UK market. We recently developed a relationship with an international influencer with over 10,000 followers on social media.
Our harp maker, Matt, is open to potentially moving with the business to a new owner, as is our web developer, Colin. Our bookkeeper, Helen, is welcoming a the chance to refine her work-life balance, and won’t be moving with the business.
The sale would also come with a handover period with Morwenna and Creag, to be negotiated. We have documented systems and procedures involved in making harps, so this is an opportunity for a business-minded individual(s) to learn to make harps, and take over the business as it is. It would also be possible to scale things down by outsourcing the manufacture of the harps. We have some leads for this, and would be happy to assist.
The business comes with:
- 111 customers currently paying a total of £3,457 per month for subscriptions. The majority of these are on a 3 year term; this number has seen a net growth of £568 in the past 6 months.
- A glowing reputation within the UK harp market, with only 5 star reviews on both Google and Facebook, and plenty of positive chat in the harp community.
- What we consider to be the ideal beginners harp design, a balance of aesthetic, sound, range and value that our customers love, honed over 11 years and over 350 harps made.
- Listed design rights for the unique Rainbow Harp.
